The DM release 4.0.248 generates application panels with improved design. Also new button-selector elements can be generated for panels

The 4.0.248 DM release implements a new standard application panel generation approach. Standard panels are now generated basing on a set of standard panel templates which provide generation of several panel types - record view panels, control panels, application title panels. Unified panel design can be adapted for particular application needs.

Standard panels templates and all graphic elements are located in the "appfiles" folder, which is created automatically when you run the Data Manager. These templates can be modified as needed to create a unique design of the application.

Two specialized buttons have been added into Application Library Control dialog window - the first one reload standard panel templates and the other one is used to copy panel templates from the other application.

Also a new visual control element for panels was implemented in this DM release. This is the selector-button element. It is a drop-down list with a button to the right of it. The semantics of the button is programmed by selection window - Pressing Buttons leads to activation of one of the events (marks) that are specific to each line of selection window. Thus, the same button can implement several different actions depending on the choice made by the user.

In DM release 4.0.243 the semantic of the "Value" operation is changed for totals (summary lines) calculation

Starting the 4.0.243 DM release the "Value" operation in totals (query summary lines) forms the total value for every processed record. So the last significant value is placed into the resulting string, not the first one as it was previously. This change is due to the need to ensure the possibility of calculating the value for the last record in the group of records to form the final line.

In addition, this release fixes several previously identified bugs:

  • incorrect work of abbreviated data access forms (containing not all table columns) was fixed;
  • recall item filtering (not working earlier) fixed;
  • a possibility to change font settings in tabular reports based on MS Word templates was provided;
  • the possibility of using a template with bookmarks (in MS Word) is provided to create printed reports basing on them.

Also a check box in the settings dialog box was added to cancel the service control panel menu in the administrative mode.

In DM release 4.0.239 it is possible to store application windows positions and sizes

DM release 4.0.239 implements a mechanism fo application windows sizes and positions storing. When a window is closed DM keep its position and size in memory, so that when you re-open the window it will keep the position on the screen set previously.

By default DM keeps windows sizes and positions till the end of the current session. To save rememberd during the session window sizes and positions "globally" (to use them in future sessions) - you need to save the information on the disc at the end of the session (when the position of all closed windows has been collected). A special command "Save the stored position and size of windows" is used for this - the command is located in the "Application" command menu application ("finger").

This release alse changes the "Read Only" check in the access form edit window - it has been replaced by two flags. The first check - the "Panel is read-only (R/O)" - is located in the upper right corner of the access form editor window (instead of the old flag). It prohibits data editing in the data acceess form grid for the dataset. Source data for this access form of access are still available for recording, so that the data set may be edited, for example, be means of a show record panel.

Another check box - "Access Read Only", located to the right of the database table name, on the contrary, denies access to database records, so that when a table is accessed through this data source no data can be edited from any panel.

This approach is more accurate. It reflects the ambiguous nature of data access form - on the one hand, it is a standard dialog window, a grid presenting tabular data. On the other hand - the data access form is a logical structure (data source) providing access to the database data for every application modules.

Data Manager release 4.0.237 supports specialized input panel development - input panels are called automatically by the system just after adding new records into the table (dataset).

Data Manager release 4.0.237 allows to connect specialized input panels with the "Add Record" command button, so that this panel is called automatically just after the user pushed the "+" command button on the dataset dialog window - this command button adds new record into the table and the input panel allows the user to define values for record fields.

A number of commands also implemented in this release, which allows the developer to create input panels specially oriented on forming field values for new records:

  • WriteValueToVar command - the command assignes a formula result to an element attribute on the panel (including elements representing table fields on the panel)
  • CallModalVmer command - the command calls an auxilary table window which allows the user to point out needed record in it
  • FilterTable command - this command filters some auxilary table to select needed record in it automatically

Also some Panel Editor improvements were made in 4.0.237 release - it is possible now to view special DM-elements properties, set and clear active marks on any panel element, call Scenario Editor directly from Panel Editor.

Data Manager release 4.0.235 supports a possibility to specify arbitrary logical formulas for table fields to provide record values checking during manual data input, and also start value definition for fields.

The Add command inserts a new record in the table and till now field values in this new record are specified as NULL (undefined). Starting release 4.0.235 it is possible to specify initial values for record field in table definition - these values will be assigned to record fields when new record is added into the table.

In addition it is possible to specify logical formula for any field to provide input data control when the user edit the field manually. This logical formula may be also used to form error messages when data are out of defined boundaries.

Data Manager release 4.0.232 is available. It supports a possibility to automatically update Reports and Totals View Forms and call them directly from Query dialog windows

When you run a Query a report table is formed by Data Manager. This query result table can be saved on the disk as a separate dataset. Then a View (panel) can be created for this dataset to present result table data as a print-ready reporting document. In particular this View can be created on the basis of a template prepared in MS Word and saved as HTML page. After that you can use this "resulting" Dataset and this View many times to print the query result in needed format - it is possible to save query result in the resulting dataset, call its View (panel), and print it.

Starting with the 4.0.232 Data Manager release this query result printing procedure can be automated. The new concept of Reporting Forms has been introduced for Datasets - Reporting Form corresponds to an auxiliary dataset with a View (panel) prepared for printing in specialized format. The Reporting Form can be assigned to the Query and then can be used directly from the query dialog window by pressing the "Print" button. When the user selects the desired Reporting Form from the list of available connected Reporting Forms - Data Manager automatically saves the query result table into corresponding auxilary dataset and calls the appropriate View (panel) of the Reporting Form.

This mechanism allows us to develop and to connect to dataset queries a variety of different Reporting Forms for presenting Query results as printed documents of all needed formats. It is no matter for the application end-user how complex the internal printed document praparation procedure is - he just push the "Print" button on the Query window and selects needed Reporting Form.

Data Manager release 4.0.226 implements a number of new visual elements for table data reperesentation on Dataset Views.

Till release 4.0.226 the standard table grid was the only visual element to present tables on panels (views). The table grid is universal and sutable element to present tables but it is not native HTML element, it is not embedded in the HTML panel page but it is visualised separately "on top" of the panel. This approach is ecxeptable for visual screen views, but is not sutable for panels printing, for documents.

Starting release 4.0.226 in addition to the table grid Data Manager supports in Panel Editor also three new types of visual elements for table data representation. They are HTML Tables, Table Areas, and Expandable Tables.

HTML Tables provide a possibility to insert a standard HTML Table element (table.../table) into the panel (screen view or printing document in HTML format) and fill in a set of records into it. Dataset records will be automatically filled in the inserted HTML table element on the panel page. Big tables can be splitted on several pages if needed (with some standard title zone on each page). Also table data can be scrolled is needed.

HTML Table is actually a "native" HTML analog of table grid but with some evident restrictions - for example using HTML Table it is not possible to edit table data in it.

In opposit to HTML Tables other new elements - Table Areas and Expandable Tables - are not generate new visual elements on the panel. Instead they fill in existing table.../table elements on the panel - it is supposed that the panel is a HTML page prepared by some external editor, for example by MS Word.

The Table Area element fill in some rectangular area of a table on the pabel. The user has to specify the left top table cell for the area and define a number of columns and rows which are to be filled in by dataset data.

The Expanded Table element fills in the table row-by-row starting with defined line. Template table lines above the starting one are interpreted as a table header and are copied automatically to the start of each page (in the case of partitioning a large table on several pages). In the case of reaching the last row of the template table (while filling it with data) new rows for additional data are added to the table, ie, the table will be expanded (so, this gives the name of this visual element).

New visual elements give a great opportunity for the preparation and automatic formation the variety of accounting documents, which can be directly used in the document management companies, organizations and government agencies.

Data Manager release 4.0.220 is available. It supports new Query type, Reports, which form reporting tables of arbitrary structure

Starting release 4.0.220 Data Manager supports the definition of Reporting Forms type query which are generated by sequential dataset records processing with their subsequent analysis and records data allocation to various reporting table cells (positions).

Unlike Totals query - Reporting Forms queries are not related to datasets records ordering (sorting) and result lines are not integrated textually into the original table. The result of this query is a reporting form - an independent table with fixed structure, with named columns and rows. This table is created at the beginning of the query execution and is filled in (during the source dataset records processing) basing on some decision tree.

The Decision tree is defined by the developer of the report. It is a set of tests - logical conditions having the tree structure, given a sequence of checks for the next input record. These checks determine the cell(s) in the reporting table to which the record is analyzed, and the formula to form (or modify) the resulting value for the cell.

It is important that the set of rules to select the target cell and determine the way how toform the reporting value is organized in a tree - this ensures high reporting rate even in the case of large sets of data (hundreds of thousands of records) and a large variety of tests.

A method for forming a value of a target cell in reporting table is defined in an arbitrary form, as a formula in which the previous value of the target cell can also be used. So, the value in each cell of the report is generated incrementally based on the corresponding formula that applies to all records selected for this cell.

This flexible and efficient mechanism allows the user to identify rather complex reports without loss of efficiency.

Data Manager release 4.0.215 is available. It supports local Application Library creation, maintenance and use.

Starting with the 4.0.215 Data Manager release the user can create a local Application Library - a list of Data Manager applications located on the user's computer. After this any DM application can be easily activated by selection of its name from the application list.

Creation and maintenance of the application list is supported by the specialized "Application Library Editor" dialog window which can be called from the standard "Administration" dialog.

This dialog window supports also DM application downloading from the Application Archive in Internet. The application archive on the Data Manager developer's site is supported by default. But it is possible to change the standard TmaSite location definition to redirect the application archive to any user's site.

New 4.0.214 Data Manager release implements new command in Data Access Forms providing data saving in a form of separate Dataset at the same or another database.

A new "Save result as simple dataset" button has been added to Data Access Forms in the Data Manager 4.0.214 release. This new command writes table data selected and shown in the Data Access Form into any another copmartible table (dataset).

If needed you can create new result dataset which will have "simple" structure, i.e. dataset with explicit fileds definitions. Even if the source table has some virtual fields (defined by formula) or fields coded by some dictionary or by some normative table - the result table will have all fields as explicit values in database.

It is possible also to add data into already existing dataset. The only requirement here is dataset structures compartibility.

The result dataset can be located in the same or in another database, so this new "Save result as simple dataset" command can be used for data export from one database into another.

30.05.2014
Data Manager release 4.0.212 is available. It supports data filtering control menu creation in Data Access Forms and Queries.

Starting with the 4.0.212 Data Manager release the user can define (create) data filtering control menu (like an arbitrary tree) for Data Access Froms and Queries. Each point in this menu will activate a specific set of filters and/or define specific filter parameters. So it will be possible to change filtering conditions quickly just by selecting some point (command) in the menu.

Data filtering control menu can be defined also for datasets used as dictionaries (tables for coding fields in another tables). It will allow localize data quickly when selecting them from the dictionary.

04.05.2014
Data Manager release 4.0.207 is available. It supports new kind of fields in dataset tables - filds coded by Reference tables.

Starting with DM release 207 it is possible to define fields coded by Reference tables in you datasets (tables). Such fields have values automatically extracted from some tables known as Referenced tables.

Fields coded by Reference tables are similar to fields calculated by formulas in the sense that they both are virtual ones (i.e. their values are not extracted directly from database, instead their values are "calculated on the fly" - basing on values of other fileds in the same record). However, in the contrary to calculated fields, the value of the field coded by Referense table is not calculated by the formula but just automatically extracted from the defined Reference table. This value is extracted from the Reference table column known as Value filed and from the row in which values of some other fields (known as code fields) are equel to corresponding code fields in the current main table record (which was read from database).

Fields coded by Reference tables are similar also to fields coded by Dictionaries. The difference here is that in case of Dictionary field its value coding is performed basing on a single code field, but in case of Reference tables several code fields are tipically used for the target field coding. Another difference is that for fields coded by the Dictionary automatic coding/decoding is provided it both direction - for reading and for writing, but for fields coded by Reference tables only coding while reading is possible. Fields coded by Reference tables are read only fields.

Reference tables, as well as Dictionaries, are datasets.

20.04.2014
Data Manager release 4.0.206 is available. It implements Dataset concept for Dictionary tables.

Dictionary tables are considered to be datasets starting with this release. The access to the Dictionary is now implemented by standard way for datasets - via Data Access Forms. This approach is more general one - it unifies the access to the Dictionary table as for dictionary creation and manual editing so as for automatic field coding-decoding when DM opens dataset for the user (for fields coded by this Dictionary).

Besides, the Data Access Form specification for the Dictionary during the field definition provides universal mechanism for so-called multy-Dictionaries implementation (multy-Dictionary is a table uniting several Dictionaries used for coding of several main table fields). Standard filtering mechanism in Data Access Forms can be used now for Dictionary data extracting from multy-Dictionary. It is posible now to select needed Dictionary for some coded field by specifying corresponding multy-Dictionary data access form in the coded field definition.

Dictionary code field name and value field name (in main table field definition for coded fileds) are to be now extrnal names, not internal ones as they were before this DM release.

!!! IMPORTANT NOTES:
.vms, .vme, and .vmz file formats has been changed starting with this DM release (.vms - table definition files, .vme - Data Access Forms files, .vmz - Query definition files). So it is strictly reccomended to save (backup) your existing application before moving to DM release 206, as in case you edit your application in DM release 206 it will not be possible to return to working with this edited application using previous DM releases.

Also you may need to correct (edit) you existing application to move to DM release 206.

26.03.2014
Data Manager release 4.0.204 is available. It implements Dataset concept for auxilary tables.

Auxilary tables in this release are considered to be datasets, so all dataset components are available when using auxilary tables.

In previous Data Manager releases the user was allowed to work with auxilary data as tables only, no access to panels and queries was available for auxilary tables. Starting with Data Manager release 4.0.204 auxilary tables are shown as usual datasets access forms, so all buttons to call dataset components are available - it is possible to call panels for auxilary table record presentation, run queries for auxilary tables, even define and use next level auxilary tables for them.

There is a need to solve some compartibility problems when moving to this new Data Manager version. Auxilary tables created for datasets in old applications are going to work OK with new Data Manager version but only till some changes in dataset description. You will need to re-define all auxilary tables for dataset in case of editing some dataset properties.

08.03.2014
Data Manager release 4.0.200 has been prepared with some bugs fixed.

Stability and reliability of the Data Manager have been improved by correcting some bugs abd errors found.

The dialog window presenting data sets was modified to changes a bit the semantics of the "Tables" button. Now when you click on the "Tables" button you can call any additional dataset table (if any) or open a synchronous copy of the master dataset table. This last option can be useful in the case of multi-column tabular data sets with wide lines, which do not fit in the width of the window - it is now possible to show such table simultaneously in two windows (the left side of the table in one window, and right part - simultaneously in another window) .

29.01.2014
Data Manager release 4.0.198 prepared with extended set of scenario commands.

Dialog window for application scenarios commands definition was redesigned. His current design will now allow to easilly expand the set of Data Manager scenario commands.

The concept of variables has been developed and implemented for panels comprising the application in Data Manager. The variables are determined for the panels by means of special commands in a script which also let you create, store and transfer data (values) from one panel to another.

The variable "lives" on the panel as an attribute of some HTML element. Simple variables "lives" in a special HTML element with ID="cdr_var". However almost ane attribute of any panel element can be considered as variable, so can be accessable by scenario commands.

Simple variables can be created by the DefineCdrVar command. Using the WriteValueToVar command it is possible to assign a value to variables. Variables can be used as parameters of any scenarion command.

22.12.2013
Data Manager release 4.0.196 is available with extended functionality of Totals forming module in the Query System.

Data Manager Query system functionality has been extended in terms of ways of totals forming. Set of operations to form fields summary rows has been extended by new operations - "Formula" and "Value", which allow you to specify an arbitrary formula to calculate summary row field values basing on the values of other fields of this summary row ("Formula" operation), or row fields of higher level ("value" operation).

The "Sum" operation and the "Everage" operation were extended by the possibility to specify formulas for calculating the summed value.

Starting with this release, data filtering in queries can be specified as formulas defining arbitrary conditions.

13.10.2013
Data Manager release 4.0.188 is available which improves Query System functionality.

Query System now supports new data types recently introduced. Besides, query results saved or exported will have now explicit actualized values instead of processed fields in tables.

Also general reliability of Query System improved by reworking a number of its modules.

30.08.2013
Starting Version 4.0.182 it is possible to define table columns with new "Point on the map" data type.

Data Managert supports now new "Point on the map" data type. This data type is to represent a point position on the map - the geographical coordinates as latitude and longitude. In case of active Internet connection the Data Manager provides such data visualization as markers on geographical maps, supported by the Google Map interface.

While "Points on the map" editing the user is supported by Data Manager which can show a specialized dialog window with a map on it, which allows the user to set map position as needed and define the exact coordinates of the point. Also "Points on the map" data can be visualized as markers on the map - specialized graphical elements on screen view forms (panels) for table data representation. Two types of such graphical elements are supported - the one for individual Point on the map representation and the other one - for presentation of a set of markers to provide a table record selection by marker clicking.

3.08.2013
Starting Version 4.0.180 it is possible to define table columns with new "File" and "General Date" data type.

Now two new data types are supported by Data Manager - the "File" data type is for files collectioning, and "General Date" data type is for representation of natural (usual) dates which tipically are to be defined with different accuracy.

"Files" present file names in tables. Files itself are collected in special directory. When the user deal with data of the "File" type in the table the Data Manager provides standard Open File dialog (by F1) to select needed file and enter its name as the new value, and also the user can open the referenced file by the default file viewer (by F5). Also the "File" data can be used on screen view forms (panels) as links to open real files by default file viewer.

"General Dates" are very sutable for historical dates representation. In the contrary to usual "Date" type data which can represent only Grigorian calendar dates (exact calendar "day-month-year" dates after year 1600) - "General Dates" can refer to any dates (both AC an BC). In addition, when we use many years ago dates we tend to defin them with low accuracy, and this is just what supported by General Dates. With General Dates it is possible to define such dates as "1st half of 15 century" or "5 thousand years ago". Another possibility is to define a date as some time interval, "21.07.1952 to 30.08.1952",for example.

For General Dates the Data Manager provides a possibility to define them using general natural language terms (using specialized dialog window). General Dates compare operations are also provided, so the data filtration is also possible for this data type.
